FICTION

  • My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult (added by Mrs. Walsh)- This is one of my favorite books of all time. I couldn't stop turning the pages. Quick Summary: A teenage girl struggles with the idea that she could have been conceived by her parents to keep her sister, who is fighting cancer, alive. Several themes and questions struck me. Is it ethical to have a child just to keep another alive (stem cell research)? At what age can we make decisions about our health? What happens to siblings when the parents hyper-focus on one child? Do our parents really know what's best for us? I haven't seen the movie, but I hope to in the next couple of months (I'll probably wait for it to come out on DVD). *Highly Recommended* (Discussion question posted)
